2010/11 Avalanche
Injuries and illness have plagued the Avalanche this season beginning with starting goaltender Craig Anderson going down with a knee injury during pre-game drills in late October. Anderson would return but it signaled things to come for the team. In September, LW Peter Mueller sustained a concussion which has kept him on the IR list. Defenceman Kyle Quincey will miss the remainder of the season after a December Shoulder surgery. In January, Center Ryan O’Reilly also injured his shoulder and is expected to be sidelined until at least mid-February. Then on January 20th, it was announced that LW Tomas Fleischmann would miss the remainder of the season due to a pulmonary Emboli on each lung. “The nature of his condition requires him to be on blood thinners for several months, and he will be unable to play hockey during this time,” Team Doctor David Mellmen said.
During the offseason Entry Draft, the Avalanche selected Centre CMJH Centre Joey Hishon with the 17th overall draft selection, Guard Calvin Pickard with the 49th overall pick and Left Wing Michael Bournival with the 71st overall selection.
